May is Physical Fitness and Sports Month
  1. It helps kids achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.
  2. It helps build and maintain strong, healthy muscles, bones and joints.
  3. It aids in the development of interpersonal skills.
  4. It improves the quantity and quality of sleep.
  5. It promotes improved school attendance and enhances academic performance.
  6. It improves self-esteem and self-image.
  7. It prevents or delays the development of many chronic diseases (e.g., heart disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension).
  8. It improves symptoms of anxiety and depression.
  9. It improves motor coordination and enhances the development of various motor performance skills.
  10. It increases the likelihood that they will keep exercising as an adult.

It is recommended that children get 60 minutes or more of physical activity a day. In celebration of Physical Fitness and Sports Month, Center for Childcare Careers encourages all child care providers to promote regular physical activity with your children.
